![]() Seed banks are an important strategy for plant conservation because they allow us to preserve an extremely high degree of intra- and inter-species diversity within a relatively small amount of space. By following proper processing and storage guidelines this material remains viable for decades; thus making it available for future conservation and restoration needs.
In my current role as Seed Bank Manager for the Missouri Botanical Garden, I oversee the new MBG Seed Bank, located at Shaw Nature Reserve. The mission of the Seed Bank is: to support and enhance the research, conservation and horticultural goals of the Garden; and to collect, store, and develop targeted research and conservation projects for the seeds of the entire native eco-regional flora of Missouri. |
